Jason Botts DFA’d, wants out of Texas

According to The Dallas Morning News, the Texas Rangers have designated Jason Botts for assignment. The 27 year old has been up and down four times now and has had enough.

“I think I’ve been here for a pretty long time and I deserve a fresh start somewhere else,” Botts said. “I think there’s plenty of examples of people leaving the Texas Rangers and going on to really great things. There could be something huge in my future.”

It is hard to misinterpret that comment. Botts feels that the organization has mishandled him and he would rather be released than go back to Triple-A. He could be placed on waivers and find a way out of the organization that way. If nobody claims him or trades for him, he might have no choice but to remain in the Rangers organization.

Botts batted .158 in 38 at bats this season, playing 1B and DH. It sounds to me like the move was warranted based on his performance.

  1. How bad does it suck to get dropped from the Rangers?
