Orioles release Jay Gibbons
The Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have released OF Jay Gibbons. Gibbons was owed $11.9 million this year which the Orioles are still on the hook for.
Gibbons was already going to miss the beginning of the season due to a penalty for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs. The suspension was thought to have nothing to do with the release.
“”I’m shocked,” said Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts, Gibbons’ best friend on the team. “I didn’t think it would actually happen, but that’s part of the game.”
