Pirates get Yates from Atlanta

The International Herald Tribune reports that the Pirates have picked up Tyler Yates from the Atlanta Braves. In return, the Braves will get Double-A right-hander Todd Redmond from the Pirates.

With Byung Hyun-Kim now out of the Pirates picture, Yates is now pretty much guaranteed a spot in the pen. Trading Yates was a move that Atlanta was expected to make. They have a bunch of out-of-options guys that need roster spots or they’re gone. Trading them gives the Braves something in exchange rather than just losing out. Redmond struggled in 2007 by going 8-13 with a 4.39 ERA in 28 starts at AA Altoona and Single-A Lynchburg. He isn’t a great prospect or anything, but its better than just cutting Yates.
